Congress has continued the rule that caps how much you pay for ACA health insurance premiums based on income.
Here’s the key takeaway:
· Your monthly premium for a benchmark ACA plan is capped at 8.5% of your household income, even if your income is above 400% of the federal poverty level.
· This means many middle- and higher-income households may still qualify for premium tax credits.
We understand that projecting next year’s income isn’t always easy. If you’re unsure, give us a call. We’ll walk through your options and help you estimate safely and accurately.

If your household income is below 400% of the federal poverty level, it is especially important to check for ACA subsidies — many people qualify and don’t realize it.
Subsidy amounts are based on household size and income, and they can significantly reduce monthly premiums.
(An updated subsidy chart based on current federal guidelines can be provided.)
Having access to employer-sponsored coverage usually disqualifies you from ACA subsidies — but not always.
You may still qualify for subsidies if your employer plan is considered unaffordable.
For 2026, group coverage is considered unaffordable if the lowest-cost employee-only plan costs more than 8.39% of your household income.
Every situation is different, and small details can make a big difference.

To qualify for Obamacare, you must earn 100% of the poverty line. If you are at less than 138% of the poverty line, you most likely will qualify for Medicaid. And it's based on what you are expected to make during the year! Not what you made in 2025. AND be careful you could be required to pay significant subsidies back. Give us a call to find out how.
